Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri attributed the delays for the Air India disinvestment on the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. He assured that the disinvestment process will be completed this year.
On March 27, 2021 Puri had announced that Air India would be brought under a private enterprise in May or June. The Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns meant that bidders were unable to travel for meetings, a crucial step in order to complete the privatisation process.
Puri has been quoted as saying that, “Air India is still in debt of Rs 60,000 crore and is liable to be sold.”
