Chill at Bonobo:Bonobo Bar Mumbai

Bonobo gets its name from an endangered ape that lives in the heart of the Congo, hinting at something unusual and intriguing. After climbing the stairs and entering the exotic interiors of Bonobo, it’s quite easy to imagine yourself in a far off tropical location, miles away from Mumbai.

Bonobo is divided into two areas – an outdoor dining area, and an enclosed air-conditioned lounge where the DJ spins his tunes in the evenings. The décor is in tones of beige, brown and green successfully creating a jungle ambiance without being tacky. Tables are covered with thatched umbrellas, the roof lined with billowing fabric and wrought iron candelabra-style lights, and the walls stylishly painted with foliage, birds and dragonflies. The venue serves a variety in European cuisines and can accommodate almost two hundred people at one go. Mostly electric and house are played here although Anup P Gandhi, one of the partners, said, “We actually experiment a lot with music”. A few recommendations among the finger food served here include Mozarrela En Carozza, Angry Birds (which comes with spicy barbeque chicken balls and smoked scarmoza), Chipotle Honey & Mustard Chicken Skewers and Black Bean with Root Vegetable Slider. These are best complemented with signature cocktails like Pomegranate Mint Martini made with citrus vodka and gin, Jalapeno Olive & Gherkin Martini and Orange & Toffee Nut (white rum, peach, toffee nut, freshly muddled orange and vanilla). The main course involves a variety of modern European fare with some of the favourites being Wild Mushroom with Truffled Mascarpone Risotto, Bhavnagri Chile Rellenos and Vietnamese Basa. Pineapple Express, Jungle Juice and Muddled are the mocktails most in demand. Don’t wrap up your meal without trying out scrumptious desserts like Warm Chocolate Mud Cake and Banana Fosters.
