Cooch Behar Airport Resumes Operations

The Cooch Behar airport in north Bengal has resumed commercial operations between Cooch Behar and Kolkata after nearly 20 years.

North East Shuttles Private Ltd has been granted permission to operate an 18-seat Dornier 228 aircraft for five days a week under a state government subsidy scheme; the government will pay for a maximum of eight unoccupied seats in every trip for up to six months.

The Cooch Behar airport has a runway of 3,200 feet, and the construction of a terminal building and an air traffic control-cum-fire building station took place at a cost of about `40 crore.
