India Is An Important Market: Stephen King

Stephen King, the newly appointed General Manager, Virgin Atlantic India, tells EXEC what the Indian business traveller can expect from the airline.

With over 10 years of experience in the transport industry. Stephen King has managed the Business Consultancy team on multi-functional projects for Virgin Atlantic since 2005. In his new role, he shares the airline’s plans for India, which is focussed on facilitating the Indian customer better.

Q. What’s your vision for India?

India is an extremely important market for Virgin Atlantic and we are focussed on growing our business out of Delhi to London Heathrow and New York. We are an international airline but our services are localised to suit the Indian customer better. To experience our service, passengers can travel through Delhi to London and New York. Passengers can also use our code share with Jet to travel to London and beyond on the Virgin Atlantic network.

Q. Which cities will you be primarily focusing on for expanding the Virgin Atlantic network?

We are starting extra services to SFO from end March and new route to Vancouver from May 24. We connect to London from Mumbai also by codesharing on Jet Airway’s Mumbai-London flights.

Q. In terms of services provided, what can a business traveller from India look forward to while flying Virgin Atlantic?

A business class traveller can look forward to an experience that’s pleasurable even before he enters our aircraft. Our chauffeur driven cars will pick them from office/home to kick-start a journey. If you’re departing from Heathrow Terminal 3, you can enjoy the Upper Class Wing, with Drive Thru Check-In, a private security channel enabling the passenger to speed through the terminal quicker than ever before, moving from the limo to the lounge in under 10 minutes.

Virgin Atlantic’s Economy class aims to give maximum value for money. We have Indian crew along with Indian food and latest Hindi entertainment available on the flights to India. Our newly launched Economy service includes number of delights such as welcome cocktail, new bespoke cutlery, a snack tray service, a tasty new food menu and dessert service, a mug of hot chocolate at night and much more.

The Premium Economy cabin is aimed at the cost conscious business & leisure traveller, who for budgetary reasons travels economy but still requires extra space in which to work or relax. A separate cabin, extra legroom, wider leather seat, priority boarding, dedicated check in, everything about the cabin is premium except the price.
