Main Mumbai Airport Runway to be shut during daytime

According to reports flights in and out of Mumbai airport will be affected over the next two months as the main runway has been shut for upgrading radars and other operational equipment. The runway will be shut till February 7 next year.
Due to this, over 120 domestic departures have been affected, airport sources said in a report. The Mumbai airport and the Airports Authority are changing the glide path angle at the main Runway (27) to 3 degrees from the present 3.3 degrees to meet international norms.

Glide path is an instrument landing system (ILS) is a ground-based instrument approach system that provides precision guidance to an aircraft approaching and landing on a runway, using a combination of radio signals and, in many cases, high-intensity lighting arrays to enable a safe landing during instrument meteorological conditions (IMC), such as low ceilings or reduced visibility due to fog, rain, or blowing snow. Three degrees is considered the optimum.

Mumbai airport authorities say the situation is unavoidable and all stakeholders, including aviation regulator DGCA, are taken into confidence prior to the commencement of the work.
