Mauritius has received two World Travel Awards (WTA) at the recently held Indian Ocean Ceremony 2013 in the Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination, and Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination categories. Michael Sik Yuen, Minister of Tourism & Leisure, Government of Mauritius, dedicated the awards to professionals and stakeholders of the Mauritian tourism industry, a release stated. He stressed on the importance to promote niche segments, namely the honeymoon segment. The Ceremony was held at the Paradise Island Resort & Spa, Maldives.
“We can clearly see the positive effects of the diversification of the markets, specifically in the honeymoon and sports (kite surfing and diving) segments. Mauritius has consolidated its position in the Indian Ocean as the undeniable leader in terms of travel choice for honeymooners. In France, our island remains the number one choice for honeymoons. Even Air Mauritius made the country very proud by winning the Indian Ocean Leading Airline destination and has been doing so since 2005. This reinforces our commitment for further joint actions with the national airline,” Yuen said.
World Travel Awards this year celebrates its 20th anniversary and is acknowledged across the globe as the ultimate travel accolade, celebrating brands that are pushing the boundaries of industry excellence in product and service.
