The new terminal at the Pondicherry Airport was officially launched on the 17th of January. The airport that previously housed charter flights and scheduled services will now ply commercial flights too. Chief Minister N Rangaswamy was present at the launch following which the first Spice Jet flight SG3306 heading to Bangalore took off. The aircraft being used for the 50-minute flight between the cities is BOMBARDIER Q400 with a seating capacity of 78 and an average cruise speed of 360 Knots at 20,000 feet. From Bangalore, there are convenient flights connecting major cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi. The launch has put the union territory in the map of world airports.
