MP receives Rs 1,500 cr investment proposals from private sector for tourism development

MPAccording to news reports, the Government of Madhya Pradesh (MP) has received investment proposals of Rs 1,500 crore from private players for developing tourism projects in the state, in last six months, a senior official of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) said. The state government has identified 16 special zones to attract private investments in tourism, as per The Hindu Business Line report. These zones would provide additional subsidies and incentives for the investors apart from tax exemptions, O V Choudhary, Chief General Manager, MPSTDC, said while addressing a press conference in Kolkata recently.

“We have received investment proposals worth Rs 1,500 crore across the state and 16 properties are now available with us (Madhya Pradesh) for carrying out tourism projects. The Zee Group has shown interest to set up a resort in one of these plots,” he said. Choudhary added that 12 properties (plots) have already been leased out for tourism-related projects recently. Those interested in investing in the 16 zones can buy land or take them on lease for 90 years. There are ample opportunities in places such as Jabalpur, Chattarpur, Dhar, Indore, Sivni and Narsinghpur, Choudhary said.

He said that the tourism policy of the state provided ample scope for the development of tourism infrastructure through private participation. Choudhary said that the MPSTDC was introducing new tourism circuits to facilitate tourists as it was not possible to cover the state at one go. Meanwhile, MP is planning to promote places such as Panchmarhi, Orcha, Bhopal, Mandu and the wildlife sanctuaries through tie-ups with film production companies. Choudhary informed the films shot in the state would be exempted from Entertainment Tax. Besides, he added, hotels rooms for the production crew of any film shot in the state would be available free of cost.

According to Choudhary, MP Tourism currently operates around 900 rooms in various tourist destinations. “We plan to double the capacity of hotel rooms over the next one year,” he said.
