Starbucks Sets Sights on China and IndiaAccording to news reports, Starbucks, has set its sights on boosting its footprint in traditional tea-drinking countries such as India and China. The company plans to boost the number of Starbucks outlets in China to 1,500 by 2015, up from 850 in 70 cities now, 13 years since it entered the mainland. It also intends to open more outlets in India, where it has only 12 now.

“As Starbucks continues to accelerate growth in Southeast Asia, Thailand will play a critical role in its development and expansion”, said, Howard Schultz, Chairman of Starbucks during his recent visit to celebrate Starbucks’ 15th anniversary at Bangkok, Thailand.

“We never dreamed that Starbucks would be a popular coffee brand with an impact throughout the world. The company has received a good response in all countries including China, which has a tea culture”, The reported Schultz.

The company plans to double its size in the Thailand to 320 branches within the next five years. The fourth Starbucks community store globally was recently opened in Thailand to add to those in Los Angeles, New York and Texas. The first Asian community store is located near The Portico community mall in Bangkok’s Lang Suan Road area.
