The e-visa replaces the sticker or stamp visas and eliminates need for travellers to visit embassies or consulates to obtain visa if they are travelling for leisure or business.
Statistics from Turkish government show that 73,000 of the approximately one lakh travellers from India are tourists.
A good number of corporate companies also held their business conferences in the country “laced with beaches, bays, coves, ports, islands and peninsulas” last year pushing up the number of business travellers.
“More than 20% of total Indian visitors who travelled to Turkey last year fall under MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Exhibition) category,” said Ozgur Ayturk, counsellor, culture and tourism, Emabassy of Turkey in India.
Turkey hopes that e-visa will be useful for these travellers.
Applicants just need to log on to www.evisa.gov.tr to apply, pay and download online visa. The visa would also be e-mailed to the applicant, he added.
The facility will be useful for Indian travellers if they have a passport of six months validity, documents related to their travel purposes (a return ticket, hotel reservation, financial means of minimum US Dollar 50 for each day), a valid Schengen visa or a valid visa from any of the OECD member countries or a valid residence permit in these countries the report stated.
